Interviews with some of the leading marimba artist-teachers from the 20th century. Topics include opinions on teaching, performing, how and what to practice, taking competitive auditions, repertoire selection, health and more. This book includes what students learned from early teachers including Musser, Bethancourt and Hiroaka. A follow up book, with more artists, is in progress. Interviews were conducted by Greg Giannascoli with a foreword written by William Moersch.
Marco Schirripa holds Bachelor’s degrees in Percussion Performance and Music Theory from Ithaca College, as well as a Master’s degree and doctorate in Percussion from Indiana University, where he was awarded the prestigious Performer's Certificate. He serves as Assistant Professor of Percussion at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Marco has performed on international stages, including Zeltsman Marimba Festival and several PASICs, as well as the 2013 Great Plains and 2014 Southern California International Marimba Competitions, taking first place in both. He is currently a member of the Heartland Marimba Quartet.
Dr. Schirripa has been active in the commissioning and premiering of new works by diverse composers and his playing can be heard on albums featuring the music of Gordon Stout, Leroy Osmon, Amaury Leon Sosa, and Dominick DiOrio. His compositions are performed around the world and his work is available through C. Alan Publications and Keyboard Percussion Publications.
